Summary: Glue research project focusing on the feasibility of using glue for architectural applications. Tested various glue strengths with a team in the chemistry department. Each architecture student made their own piece of metal furniture to test the field application of glue. Put together exhibition of work in the Cal Poly CAED office.
Team: Prof. Emily White, Mariana Puig, John Lin, Dr. Erik Sapper, Ethan Kim
Summary: Metal furniture testing hydro-forming with glue seams. Two sheets of thin galvanized steel were laminated together with a nozzle. A pressure washer was then connected via a hose to the nozzle and the piece was inflated. The new cavity was filled with an expanding foam and the piece took on a "ravioli" form. The ravioli functions as an outdoor throw-pillow.
